Fort Niagara, for example, is popular for locals and tourists alike, and offers plenty of activities for boating, canoeing and kayaking. Grassy hills wind down to sandy beaches covered with beautiful shells and many types of birds, and there are boat docks and marinas as far as the eye can see. Whether you prefer to paddle along in a kayak or test the waves on a sail boat, you'll never be bored at Fort Niagara. The best times to visit this location are from late May until mid-August.
Or, if you want to try something more daring in your boating adventures, head to Devil's Hole in the Niagara region of New York. Located just north of Niagara Falls, Devil's Hole boasts rapids that are sure to get your blood pumping, and you might find that you enjoy it even more than boating or kayaking on the open water. The Devil's Hole State Park is open year-round, and is close to other boating activities if you find that rapids aren't for you.
Further south, you might want to take a day or two at Beaver Island State Park, which offers many different boating, kayaking and canoeing activities. Ice fishing is particularly popular in the winter, but the summer months provide plenty of great weather for waterskiing, boat races and endurance trials. Nearby in the Finger Lakes region of New York is the Big Six Mile Creek Marina, which has more than 130 seasonal boat slips, an on-site gas pump and daily dockage.
