Bob Dylan in Concert: Pure Entertainment

Bob Dylan Smiles

Having never been a Bob Dylan fan, per say, I was presented with the opportunity of seeing him in concert. He is an icon, so I thought it would be cool to at least see Bob Dylan in concert. I was not expecting much. I pictured him sitting on a stool playing acoustic guitar. Boy, was I wrong. Here is my recount of seeing Bob Dylan in concert. And, here is why you should see him in concert - if you have the opportunity.

Bob Dylan is noted for his creative genius, of course. This comes through 100% during his concert performance. There are a tremendous variety of songs, lyrics, and sounds during his concert. When I saw him, his sound system was good enough for me to understand him. And, that is saying a lot!

Bob Dylan knows how to keep his audience entertained. I am not certain if he does this on purpose, however. He just has a passion for his music that shines through. There is nonstop entertainment once he gets on stage. Ranging from instrumental, to vocal and visual - all sense were being used. The Bob Dylan concert entertained me for two and one half hours. That is impressive, in my books.

Bob Dylan is known for having guest musicians pop in during his concert performances. Then, they all jam together. And, I mean jam. This concert was no exception. Greg Allman was the guest musician during this concert. Allman and Dylan jammed for 20 minutes on "Rambling Man." To say it was impressive is an understatement.

Bob Dylan's love of music and obvious passion, as previously mentioned, is obviously clear during his concert performance. I even saw him smile! In fact, he had such a huge smile that I was taken aback. I did not know he had teeth (poor joke on my part). He has a beautiful, captivating smile. Up to then, I had only seen him smirk and grimace. Bob Dylan's smile lit up the stage. It added to his concert performance, in my opinion.

When Bob Dylan played "Lay Lady Lay" everyone sang along. "Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man", "Tangled Up In Blue", and "Just Like a Rolling Stone" were simply superb.

The clincher, in my opinion, was his encore of "Everybody Must Get Stoned." Everyone, and I mean everyone emphatically belted out this tune in unison. What fun!!

A Bob Dylan concert is an event everyone ought to see at least once in his or her life. My concert experience turned me into a Bob Dylan fan. I now have an appreciation for him that I never would have had without seeing him live in concert.

I purchased one of the t-shirts they were selling as Dylan paraphernalia. On the front is "If you want someone to trust…." On the back reads, "Trust Yourself". How appropriate.

Bob Dylan rocks.
