Bob Dylan Hosts New Show on XM Satellite Radio
Take a Tour Through a Diverse Musical Landscape Courtesy of Dylan
There's a new voice on XM satellite radio as folk legend Bob Dylan takes over the mic in his new weekly hour-long show, The Theme Time Radio Hour. Though Dylan has released over 44 albums, this time he's turning the spotlight on the artists who've influenced him- many of which have covered his won songs. The show, which debuted on May 3 on XM's Deep tracks, a channel devoted to spinning classic tunes, features special themes, reflecting the host's diverse musical background, and features commentary on music and other topics chosen by Dylan, as well as special guests artist interviews and time to address listener's emails.
For his debut show, Dylan took a theme as simple as "the weather" and led us through a cornucopia of sounds-from Muddy Waters' "Blow, Wind, Blow" to Judy Garland's "Come Rain or Come Shine." He also played Stevie Wonders' "A Place in the Sun" and Jimi Hendrix's "Wind Cries Mary," spinning 16 songs in all with his own blend of humorous and poetic commentary sprinkled in between.
"Songs and music have always inspired me," explains Dylan, according to XM's official site. "A lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I've ever been on the other side of the mic. It'll be as exciting for me as it is for XM." The premiere show was well-received by critics who hailed Dylan's diverse play lists and musical creativity.
