Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp Cancel Arizona Concert
Dylan, Nelson & Mellencamp Cancel Camelback Ranch Performance - Too Hot to Handle!
Local radio station KTAR reports that the concert's promoter cancelled the concert, citing soaring temperatures that would pose a "serious health risk to the public as well as the working personnel at the outdoor venue."
The weather forecast predicts temperatures of around 110 degrees F.
Hot in Arizona during the summer - who knew?

The trio's cancellation is yet another in a wave of postponement/cancellations by aging superstars. Dylan, Nelson, and Mellencamp join the growing ranks of artist such as Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac and Tom Jones who have recently also been forced to cancel or postpone shows due to health concerns.
Aging rocker's Aerosmith just cancelled the entire Western Canada leg of their tour due to singer Steve Tyler breaking his shoulder during a recent concert in South Dakota. The band's tour has been plagued with cancellations due to health concerns. As singer Tyler,
Guitarist Brad Whitford & Joe Perry, and most recently bass player Tom Hamilton have each undergone health problems. Tyler had already caused cancellations early in the tour due to a pulled a leg muscle. Perry has been out with knee problems earlier in the year. Whitford and Hamilton have both taken time off due to surgery.
The entire Canadian leg of Aerosmith's tour has officially been postponed with the exception of a September 3 date in Toronto, ON. Postponed dates include Winnipeg, MB Fri 08/07, Regina Sun 08/09, Edmonton, AB Tue, 08/11, Calgary, AB Thu, 08/13, Vancouver, BC Sat, 08/15/09. None of the postponed dates have been rescheduled.
No word yet on the remaining US dates.
Welsh crooner Tom Jones cancelled numerous dates in July due to viral bronchitis
Fleetwood Mac also cancelled a number of shows throughout the summer due to "band member illness." The "rumour" was that Stevie Nicks had come down with the flu.
These last minute postponements are generating growing apprehension for concert- goers, particularly those who travel long distances and shell out big bucks to see these ageing superstars only to have them pull the plug at the last minute.
On the other hand, most of these acts are now in their sixties and seventies and their touring days are becoming numbered.
Fans are stuck between a rock and a hard place. But they are ultimately the ones left holding the bag along with promoters when acts can't meet their tour obligations.
If this trend continues, the audiences may dry up and these ageing cancellation prone acts may find retirement thrust upon them.
A word of warning to fans attending the Dylan, Nelson, Mellencamp concerts in Lake Elsinore on Wed (08/12) and Fresno on Friday (08/14) - the forecast for the area is in the mid-nineties.
Caution to all concerned: If you can't stand the heat - get out of the kitchen.

The dates have just been announced for the John Mellencamp tour! I am so excited and I can't wait to buy my tickets! Here is a cool widget I found that everyone should check out and repost for their friends! http://mellencamptour.com/
Thanks for developing this. I wouldn't be too hard on the cancellation of the Dylan/Nelson/Mellencamp concert as Dylan performs about 100 concerts a year with very rare cancellations and I expect this cancellation (with temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees) was due at least as much to audience safety as to the health of the performers. Thanks for raising a provocative article, though.
