Bob Marshall and Handicapped Children Are Punishment

Marshall backs off 'punishment' comments, and for good reason, following is what Bob Marshall said at a press conference held by a group called Virginia Christian Action. Marshall spoke at a press conference to urge the elimination of state funding for Planned Parenthood because the group's services include abortion. Christian pastors and clergy were in attendance.

"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children."

"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."

What kind of person would say such things? Only an unkind, unthinking (I didn't say stupid), uncaring person. What kind of person would then retract it? Only a politician. Is he even a Christian if he cannot make a statement and then stick to it or is it okay for Christians to lie or say one thing and then, say they did not mean it? Everyone makes mistakes, but not written, thought out, planned mistakes.

Some of you may know my son has autism. I have never had an abortion, nor would I ever consider having an abortion unless it was medically necessary. I love all children, especially my own. God blesses parents with children. It is up to the adults to see the blessing.

I would like to know if some politician is telling me God is punishing me with a handicapped son? Doesn't that mean He is also punishing my son? What kind of religion has such a mean and evil God that would hurt children? I personally feel blessed. If you think it is a punishment for something heaven help your soul. Maybe you should look within yourself and get rid of your evil. Isn't judgment wrong?

Let's get off of the religion for a moment. What type of unthinking elected official would say such things to a minority when the majority would hear it as well? I guess he thought the retraction would be enough to say "I'm sorry, I just need votes?".

I know a lot of people in Virginia who will not be voting for him. In fact, the man may want to hide until everyone forgets his name. There are many families, and extended families of handicapped children in that area. These people vote. They also talk. I can honestly say I hope the man doesn't think of running for an office ever again. If he does, he may want to get better PR people.

I'm thinking religion and politics do not mix well. They both have their own rules.
