Bob Novak and His Brain Tumor

How the Family Can Help

Rosa Hayes
Bob Novak has been diagnosed with a brain tumor after having been rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital from Cape Code while visiting a daughter on Sunday. Bob Novak is a columnist for Chicago's Sun-Times and released a statement on Monday stating that he will be suspending his journalism but hopes it won't be for a too lengthy time, as reported by ABC News.

I recently had a friend who had a brain tumor. My friend was diagnosed a few years back and they thought that they had got the entire tumor out but it grew back. After having numerous treatments and operations, the tumor is finally gone once again. I could hardly imagine what Bob Novak's family is going through at this moment.

Bob Novak's family can do many things to help support him during this difficult time so that he will be more at ease. It is hard to think that anyone could be at ease with such a thing as a brain tumor but there are ways that his family and friends can help him through this difficult time.

Understanding the situation and condition of Bob Novak

Not everyone knows what a brain tumor is or how a person's body is going to react to the brain tumor. When my friend was diagnosed with a brain tumor his family went and learned as much as they could about the situation so that they could understand it more and be able to read between the lines at the doctors visits.

Bob Novak is not dead he only has a brain tumor

The worse thing that a person can do is to treat this individual as though they are dead. Many people survive through brain tumors and medicine is very advanced compared to a decade ago. Bob Novak probably already understands his condition as well as the risk and most common outcomes of brain tumors so he may not want people talking about it around him.

Let Bob Novak talk

There is no better therapy than talking and Bob Novak may need a friend to talk to and lean on during this process in his life. A brain tumor is a scary diagnosis to have to deal with and many people don't understand why this has happened to them and so they are going to need someone to talk too. Don't force conversation on Bob Novak but if he wants to talk, just let him.

I read up on a lot of things about different ways to help someone who is in a situation such as this one. I am not an expert but I do know what it is like to feel like your world is slipping away. I also know a lot of the things that will help a person through a troubling situation like this. I hope that more people will understand the power of conversation and what can help a person through a difficult time as this one.
