Bob Stoops May Be on Ticket for Notre Dame Top Job After All

The Chicago Sun Times announced today that following Notre Dame's most recent loss, athletic director Jack Swarbrick may be considering replacing him.

"...a source said Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops... will be in the mix to replace him. The source said Stoops has told confidants he would be interested in talking to the Irish."

The buzz around the Sooner state is that the die hard Stoops bashers want their coach to hit the road. The four loss season and criticism is becoming too much to bare and change is in the wind.

There just doesn't seem like there is much Stoops can do to appease the rabid masses squealing for ejection after being unable to achieve the successes that he produced only two seasons ago.

There are some valid criticisms that could be levied against the coach. He has had a history of being "difficult". Some may even say he is stubborn to the point of nothing can be executed unless it is done his way. He doesn't hold his staff to task and could definitely be a better field general. Some would even say he is losing control of his team to a certain degree. His players seem more independent and wild, lacking the discipline to become a championship squad. They have yet to develop the maturity to show strength and pull out of the tighter binds.

It possible to say that the Stoops way of doing things with the Sooners has run its course. The motivational factor may be lacking as the message may be tired and not bearing fruit. As the faithful abandon ship, Stoops would have to work harder and drive the team further in an attempt to yield past results.

However, that being said, those reasons may in and of themselves justify the move onward and upward to the fighting Irish if the head seat were to become available due to Swarbrick's dismay with his current head coach. All of the experience and hunger for something new may be just what the football gods ordered in bringing together a potent mix at Notre Dame.

Lets not forget that Bob Stoops is arguably one of the top five coaches the league has ever seen. The Stoops critics so quickly forgot how their coach brought their team, who were once destined for oblivion on the college market, out of the proverbial ooze that is football darkness and into the light to become one of the top competitors in college football.

Take one part, disgruntled football coaching mastermind, another part unrelenting catcalls for the man's dismissal, followed by a legendary football program's need for something new and you are finally left with all the ingredients as to why Stoops would be the right man for the job and why if the opportunity presented itself, he just might jump all over it.
