The Awards
1) 5 Pennants
2) 1 World Series Championship
3) Several managers of the year awards
4) "He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in May 2006."
Pros
Bobby Cox has won a world series. Cox has won five pennants and 15 division titles. It is hard to be in the pennant race year after year. However, Bobby Cox managed the Braves through a period where it appeared the Braves were in the playoffs every year. He has over 2,000 wins. Bobby Cox is a winner. Bobby Cox turned a losing franchise around in Toronto in four years. Bobby Cox stacks up well against other managers. It would be hard to duplicate the success Bobby Cox has had through the years. One can make a favorable argument for Bobby Cox to be inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
Cons
Critics of Bobby Cox will point out the 14 division titles which only materialized into one World Series Championship for the Atlanta Braves.
Future of the Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves are building up again and our starting to be a winning team again. It will be interested to see who replaces Bobby Cox. It will be interesting to see what moves Atlanta makes when Cox is retired. It will be interesting to see how the Braves react to their new manager. Those questions are a year around as the Atlanta Braves get to be guided by Bobby cox for one more year.

Post a CommentBobby Cox is one of the most overrated managers of all time. He had one of the best pitching staffs ever, with Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, and Avery, and still only won 1 World Series. He mismanaged his bullpen and the entire staff, costing them several playoff games and ultimately championships. I would be impressed if he took a team with little talent and won something like Jim Leyland did with Florida, but he has been surrounded by talent the entire time in Atlanta. He could have won just as many games if he took a nap from 7:35 until 10 every summer for the last 20 years. He is a joke. It will be a travesty if he gets elected to the hall of fame. If he gets it, I hope it is given posthumously so he does not get the gratification.
No doubt about it... great job he's done for a long time.
