Bobby Cutts Update

The update is really that there is no update. I have watched this story closely and found no activity since about June 27^th. That seems to be the last time I can find anything. There is still no definite cause of death. There has been absolute silence about this case. I attempted to contact the Akron Beacon Journal I was unable to get any information.

The reporter on this story told me when I contacted the Akron Beacon Journal that this is a capital murder case and these things move very slowly. The case is still in the pre-trial phase and no trial date has been set. I have to say that the reporter in charge of this story was not real "giving" about what, if any, new information there is on the case. It was suggested by another employee of the newspaper that they needed more minorities on the jury in order to proceed to the trial phase.

I have been writing about rouge cops for the last couple of months and I notice that 2 of the 3 of examples that I have written about are deceased. There is plenty of information about these cops gone bad, but Bobby Cutts, who is still very much alive and in custody seems to have dropped from sight in the media. We have heard nothing about the case. Perhaps if the bad cop is still alive and in the system the info that is given to the public is handled differently.

Upon reflection I find that there may be a number of reasons for the lack of updated info on this story. The first reason is that this whole "Killer Cop" story is an embarrassment for the Canton Ohio Police Department. The second reason might be that Bobby Cutts does not need any press, good or bad, while he is in prison. He is a marked man and he won't get a lot of love from his fellow prisoners. I am sure that is cold comfort to the parents and family of Jessie Davis.

And why did they release Jessie Davis' body so quickly, especially since there has been no official cause of death released to the public? Granted, the family wanted to give the mother and baby girl named Chloe a resting place, but it seems that there needs to be some answers in a case. The hasty burial of these 2 bodies seems to be a bit premature. While it has been said that the body decomposition was too far along for them to determine the exact cause of death, it still seems that the release of the bodies was much too soon.

Friends of Bobby Cutts have said that he is getting a raw deal because he was involved in a federal lawsuit meant to bring charges against the police department because of racial discrimination against black police officers. If this is the case I wonder where Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson stand on this particular case. I feel that these two celebrity civil rights champions love the spotlight and never hesitate to weigh in on any hint of civil rights violations. They are noticeably absent, which gives credence to Cutts guilt. Understand that I feel Jackson and Sharpton are great advocates of the black community and I mean no disrespect here.

Given the severity of the reaction to the Rodney King verdicts there may be a bit more caution employed in the handling of this case. The King riots happened in part because of the way the media handled the verdict. I am sure that the Canton/Ohio press is well aware of how volatile this situation can become. But hey, they can keep the facts from the public for just so long. I'll just bet they will have to move the venue out of the Canton/Akron area, the question is, will they be able to quell the potential backlash even if they move the venue? Be assured that I will continue to watch this story closely, and I will get back to you all to weigh in on the subject as soon as there is anything to report.
