Bobby Jindal - a Governor Louisiana Can Count On
The Young Governor Continues to Prove Himself Inspite of Great Odds
After working on recovery after Katrina it was easy to see the problems that years of corruption and incompetence brought. I was not alone in never wanting to see it happen again. When Hurricane Gustav came I took the lessons learned and stayed behind to use them. When Gustav hit us in Houma, Louisiana the town was almost deserted and emergency personnel were in place. Having Governor Jindal was exactly what was needed.
Even when our parish president cracked like Blanco under the pressure, Jindal intervened and the sheriff took over leadership quickly. Plan B was instituted. Once again I felt as though there was a leader I could count on and trust my life with. The communications were clear and obvious that our Governor knew what and where he was talking about. In disasters everything doesn't go as planned, but whatever went off plan was quickly fixed.
So now we have the oil spill at our door and from the beginning Jindal has taken it on like a crusade. There is a urgency in his frequent news conferences in which he addresses every affected area. Louisiana has a leader now, and though some in our state may disagree with some policies even his critics can't argue with his dedication.
Bobby Jindal has been pushing for coastal restoration for years that would have mitigated this disaster and the hurricanes. Though the Washington politicians have moved on to other issues he has stood firm in his commitment. Even though he could play up the blame game like the rest of Washington, Jindal is using every resource at his disposal to attack the problem. I have complete confidence in the man and would do anything he asked of me as a resident of Louisiana with no questions. I cannot say that of anyone in Washington.
The Republicans see his talent and tried to use him for party gain after the presidential election. There is also talk of him as a strong presidential candidate. Though I wish the best for him, Louisiana cannot afford to lose him as our leader. The only wish I have is that Washington would get out of the way and let him have complete control of the crisis in our state. With the retirement of Admiral Thad Allen the only competent federal government leader is gone. It is our state and we have the man to do it, it is time the feds and BP let us have control of our own state.
