Bocce, buffets and booze in Fort Greene Park

This weekend was perfect for a picnic in Fort Greene Park

I spent a great day in Fort Greene Park this weekend, with great company, great food and great adult beverages.

It was a perfect day for a picnic and for park activities as my friends had prepared a nice little spread of cheeses and wines so we could pretend like we were a lot more sophisticated than we really are.

Fort Greene Park is a small but cozy park. I like to head there to people-watch and to read by myself. It's enough of a low-key park that it doesn't get overrun with people and you can find peace and quiet when you need it.

This weekend was a little different because of the holiday, but everyone was in a good mood as the perfect weather rewarded us with one of the best park days of the summer. There were countless groups doing the same, all noshing on snacks and enjoying their spirits in inconspicuous paper cups.

We even found a few local kids to play 500 with. It got a little heated and by the end, they were challenging us to a full contact tackle football match to settle things once and for all.

I'd like to report back that I dominated in bocce once again and kept my all-time undefeated record alive. Although by the end of the day, I might have been fueled by alcoholic delusions and only beat myself.

Hopefully, the summer sticks around a little while longer so we can have a few more park days like this past weekend.
