Shaving is the least expensive way to remove hair and can be done by using a lubricant such as soap or a shaving cream and a razor. Shaving can also be done with an electrical razor. Shaving cuts the hair at the base near the skin. This leaves a smooth feeling, until the hair starts to grow. Having cut the hair with a razor, it will have a blunt edge and will feel sharp or stubbly.
Depilatory creams use a chemical which weakens and breaks the hair at the base near the skin and leaves the skin smooth and free of unwanted hair. Using depilatories should be done in a well ventilated area, due to the use of the chemicals in the product; there may be an odor to the product.
Waxing is done by placing warm or cold wax to the skin in the direction of hair growth. You then place a strip of cloth over the wax and press it to bond with the wax. When you remove the cloth, you pull the cloth in the opposite direction of hair growth. This method of hair removal can cause a quick discomfort, but it will only last for a moment. Hair waxing problems come into play when you have not disclosed things such as medications you are taking to the esthetician at the spa, such as Retin-A.
Laser hair removal is a semi-permanent reduction of hairs. Many people look at laser hair removal for permanent hair removal. Laser hair removal will permanently reduce the number of hairs on the skin, but is not considered a guarantee.
Electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal. An electrical current is sent to zap the follicle, causing damage so that the hair will not return. Electrolysis can be expensive and uncomfortable for large areas of hair removal.
There are many methods of hair removal, whether you want to temporarily remove hair or permanently remove hair. There are inexpensive options to remove unwanted hair and pricier ones that last longer. Hair removal is safe for both men and women.
