Body language is broadly classified into two types, one is the open body language and the other is closed body language. Open body language is where you show the other person, that you are a very open person and friendly in nature through your gestures and postures. Where as, closed body language indicates, that you are a reserved person and unwelcoming.
Gestures and Postures of open body language
Smile
You must have read this phrase on posters "Smile it costs nothing" very true. Smiling is one gesture which shows that you are a friendly person. Everybody likes to look at a smiling face. If you keep smiling all the time it gives an impression that you are tensed and trying to cover it up. If you smile when it is actually required it makes the other person very comfortable to communicate with you.
Don't cross your legs
Don't cross your legs when you are communicating with the other person. When you cross your legs, it gives an opinion that you are not comfortable in talking with that person. Always keeps your legs apart.
Look into the eyes
Always look into the eyes of the other person while you are communicating. Especially, when you are talking to a woman, it is best that you look into her eyes, because generally women would not feel comfortable talking to a person, who looks elsewhere when he communicates. Even scientifically, it is proven that when you look into the eyes of the person with whom you are communicating, they will feel attracted towards you, and they would not even know why.
Gestures and Postures of closed body language
There are certain gestures and postures which show that you are not interested in talking to that person. If you are trying to avoid somebody and if you are in a position that you cannot openly put it across, then just use certain gestures of the closed body language like,
- Fold your hands when you are communicating.
- Don't look at their eyes when you are communicating.
- Turn your body away from them
- Cross your feet.
- Keep a frown on your face, and do not smile.
Body language is very simple. To make your communication effective you must keep a watch on your body language. Because, sometimes what you speak and body language may not match, thereby making your communication less effective or even useless. So use your body language to the maximum.
