Body, Mind and Spirit: Are You Missing a Piece?

Stacey Doyle
The spirit of man [is] the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

-Proverbs 20:27

We are a fusion of body, mind and spirit. When one element does not work, the others suffer. We are unhealthy, unfulfilled and unable to see the light. Unless all elements are nurtured, we are not whole.

Our body is obvious. It is flesh and blood we can see and feel. When our body is hurt, we feel pain and see injury. We cannot deny its existence.

Our mind is also undeniable. We think and therefore we are. We cannot stop thinking. The mind is constantly working from finding food to reading a book to feeling empathy about a sad occurrence.

Somehow the spirit gets lost in the shuffle. It does not pour out red blood for us to see. It does not solve a mathematical equation. What does our spirit do anyway? Does it really exist or do we just imagine it?

Our spirit is the light that connects us to Him. It is as obvious as our body and mind. Yet we choose to ignore it or attempt to rationalize it. Fear, intellect and practicality inhibit our ability to connect with our own soul and thus, connect with God.

Oddly enough, we use fear, intellect and practicality to nurture and further the body and mind. Why are we often blind to the soul? It is easier than facing ourselves and our inability to solve certain mysteries.

It is unfortunate we don't approach our spirits with the same tenacity as we do our bodies and minds. Have we found a cure for cancer? No, but that does not mean one does not exist. We just have not found the answer yet. Will we stop searching? It would seem unconscionable when people are dying from cancer everyday.

The same rationale holds true to our souls. Answers involve connecting with our spirit and with Him. Much like finding a cure, it is a precarious adventure beyond what we easily know, see, hear and feel. That is the very essence of faith.

Knowing our spirit and connecting with Him is the only cure for the restlessness we feel. The answer is much simpler than we choose to accept.

When we acknowledge the spirit, the body and mind move on to unimaginable heights beyond doubts and banter. It's the real thing we are all looking for in the world but can only find through the spirit.

Please feel free to comment or share your own thoughts about body, mind, spirit and pursuit of faith.

Have a beautiful, blessed day!
