It is very essential for you to take proper care after you have got a part of your body pierced. This is important because every piercing is like a wound that is inflicted on your body. So you should ensure that you take good care of it. There are basically two types of body piercing - oral and non-oral. Let us now have a look at the precautions or body piercing care that you should take.

For any non-oral body piercing, you should clean it twice a day without fail. This is an integral part of body piercing care. You can use a mild anti-bacterial soap to clean the pierced area. It is best to clean your piercing in the shower, as the warm water will wash away the hard crusts that have formed at the base of the jewelry. It is always advisable to use a cotton swab to clean the piercing to avoid infection. Using a piece of cloth can be a place for germs and bacteria to breed and spread the infection. After this, you should cleanse the pierced area with soap and then clean the jewelry as well. Rotate it thoroughly, rest it for a couple of minutes and then rinse it well with warm water. This will not only clean the pierced area but also ensure that the jewelry does not get contaminated. It is also advisable to direct the shower stream over the pierced area as letting it strike it directly on the area.

After cleaning the pierced area, you can also use sea salt to reduce the inflammation as well as clear out any possibility of an infection. Again, you should never use a piece of cloth that may be re-used. It is best to use cotton swabs or tissues. Piercing after care sprays are also available in the market that have anti-bacterial effect on the piercing. Such kinds of products are proved to have a strong healing effect on the strongest of piercing and are hence an essential component of body piercing care.

Oral piercing care is slightly different from the care that you need to take for other types of piercing. You should rinse your mouth with an anti-bacterial liquid everyday for at least a month after an oral piercing. You should also ensure that there are no food particles that get stuck in your mouth under any circumstances. You should keep in mind that these products are not too strong and do not have any side effects. Anti-bacterial rinses can also be used but they should not be too strong or else it may result in slow healing. This is also an integral consideration of body piercing care.

As a part of body piercing care, you should ensure that you drink enough fluids (at least 8-10 glasses a day) and also get proper and sufficient sleep. You should also have a proper intake of fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin to speed the process of healing of the pierced area. Vitamin C and zinc are important supplements that you should take to ensure proper healing. Last but not the least, you can take painkillers if it is too much for you to bear.
