It is easy to be horrified at the newest statistics available for rates of abortions, and teen pregnancy. The highest areas effected? The hot spots are suggested by the data to be the same places where abstinence-only is preached as the only way.
The lowest areas are mostly those who teach prevention and protection. How any group that professes to be so against abortions can also teach this bunk, every piece of data proves it doesn't work. In fact, it has the opposite effect. It increases both pregnancy rates and abortion rates.
How can groups who have as a mission statement, their desire to protect life, do so much instead to push things to the boiling point? Leaving some with no recourse. Wouldn't groups who are such 'advocates for life' understand the huge wrench being thrown into the machinery here? Wouldn't they want to prevent the 'at-risk' women and 'unborn' by teaching preventative measures?
They fought so hard under the Bush administration to redefine contraception as a abortificant. Sadly, they did, although limited, succeed.
So many realize the issues, abortion is a horrible thing, that many don't go about deciding upon lightly. The abstinence-only joke does nothing to prevent it. Nothing.
Under Clinton we had amazingly low rates of both teen pregnancy and abortion, under Bush? The Bush administration managed to undo the successful measures and programs done by the Clinton administration. Instead of anything of value, they let the religious right, with all their flawed beliefs, have their way.
Instead of helping, the 'programs' introduced shared no knowledge of any form of value upon the students who were forced to take it. Instead of reducing anything, the rates of abortions in the areas skyrocketed. They (the one's pushing for abstinence-only, and restrictions on birth control) have been the cause of the skyrocketing abortion rates.
Why? Again, abstinence-only religious teachings. Teaching that both sex and prevention are wrong. There are still politicians teaching that condoms cause HIV and AIDS on billboards in, of all places- Africa.
It's sickening and in that last instance, is especially equatable to murder.
