Body Suspension Gains Mainstream Popularity

Body suspension, once used in cultures for spiritual purposes has gained popularity in all walks of life. Reasons vary for why some choose to have hooks fished through their skin and are then suspended by ropes and poles. Some are seeking a spiritual experience. Others simply for the adrenaline rush.

Online you can find numerous places to join groups of people who practice body suspension on a regular basis. It is a lifestyle for them. A path to spirituality and body art. Every year there are different conventions all over the country where you can witness body suspension in all it's glory.

Equipment for this art form is very specific including the large barbed fish hooks in either 6 or 8 gauge to be fed through your flesh. Rigs that are used to pull your body up to suspended position is nothing more than metal, ropes and pulleys.

Through experimentation and by cultural practices, there are many different positions to be suspended in. All of them vary in difficulty to do. The more difficult a suspension position the more painful the act. Enlightenment is found through this experience of pain and through conquering fear. Once you are past the pain you lose your fear and you can begin your spiritual walk.

Only for the more experienced, the Vertical Chest Suspension is a learned position adapted from Native American culture. Hooks are placed in the front of your body. When ready, you are suspended vertically in the air. All your weight pulling down makes it difficult to breath and is extremely painful.

Commonly seen positions are those with bodies suspended horizontally. Barbed hooks are placed in the chest all the way down to the legs to suspend the individual facing the ceiling in the position known as the "Coma" position. This one is only for those that can use mind over matter very well. When laying face up, the person is able to see the hooks in their skin pulling the skin while suspended.

Opposing the "Coma" position is the "Superman." Facing the ground your back has more area that hooks can be placed in to suspend you with. More hooks to aid in weight displacement makes this position the easiest and least painful to accomplish.

Body suspension is not something to be tried at home. Only participate in suspension activities with someone that is experienced and is knowledgeable of the equipment, techniques and proper sterilization procedures. Information on Suspension Groups that may be in your area, Suspension.org has an entire forum and there is sure to be one near you.

Writing is my passion. Sticking to one topic is not an option for me. My thoughts are random and my writing has no problem showing it. A prime example is my article reflecting stress. It's amazing what goes...  View profile

Very interesting! I mentioned suspension in one of my articles too. I may even try it one day, who knows?
