Diet and Nutrition

Christine Cadena

In the weight loss journey for obese adult men and women, there are many challenges that may inhibit the progress for which we often lose motivation to continue on the diet or nutritional plan. If you are struggling with weight loss compliance, it is important to understand what your weight set point is and what health conditions may cause a change in your weight set point to be difficult to move. With this understanding, you may be better equipped to fight the weight gain complications and move on to a successful weight loss.

Weight set point is a natural part of each and every person's natural weight range. Based upon our genetic pre-disposition, we each have a very narrow range of weight that our body is pre-disposed to be at. While this set point can be changed, it is necessary to know how your body will create challenges to your ability to lower your set point.

Tumors within the central nervous system are a common complication among adults and when persistent, may cause weight set points to fluctuate up or down. If you are trying to lose weight after suffering from a central nervous system tumor, you may find your weight loss is challenged by this health issue. With guidance from a nutritionist and fitness trainer, you can overcome this challenge. .

In addition to tumors, chronic and progressive diseases such as cancer, HIV, AIDS or other chronic illness can also change your body's metabolism and cause a change in your natural set point. So, if you find that you are suffering from any of these conditions, keep in mind that your weight may change and the set point may fluctuate up or down, requiring changes to your strategy for weight loss.

All weight loss efforts require a very careful plan and a strategy to overcome the natural weight set point. Once you know what your natural pre-disposition to weight may be, work to overcome the set point with a good fitness program and nutrition. Keep in mind that any new health complications may further inhibit your weight loss and, ultimately, may require a change to your strategy.
