Body of Work

Don't overwork your poetry,
picking at its full flesh.
An extra word's a blemish
not a death.

Don't parch the throat.
Don't open sores to rot
and joints to stiffening
inspection,

unless you crave
an emptiness
from human flaws--
a rattling of bones.
