Bodybuilding for Skinny People

Roger C.
Have you ever felt jealous of the guy in the gym that after working out for an hour and only 3 times a week have the body that you really want? Then you try harder and harder to look like him only to look the same after one month of hard work. This is a very discouraging experience that unfortunately is very common amongst most beginners.

The sad truth is that genes have a lot to do with it. There are guys that by working out twice a week can develop a great body with no efforts, while others work hard 5 times a week and follow rigorous diets only to gain a couple of pounds of muscle, if any. Conventional methods won't work for you if you are in this category, but there are several things you can do to improve your results regardless of your genetic code.

First, after you have done the proper stretching and warming up, don't spend your time with low weight and many repetitions exercises. These workouts are designed to define your muscles and burn fat, but you need to make muscle grow, so instead go for heavy weights and small number of repetitions. The same applies to cardio exercises. They are ok to warm up your body, but don't spend too much time there; spend that energy in the weight rooms instead.

Also work in exercises that encompass several muscular groups. These exercises include the bench press, squats, military press, rows, dead lifts, leg press and any other your instructor tells you. Do every exercise exactly the way your trainer tells you. If you can't maintain the proper form then lower the weight you are lifting. A good form will prevent injuries and make your workout more effective.

You need to watch out your diet. Weight lifting consumes a lot of energy, so you must take a heavy calorie diet. Eat calorie rich foods that contain compound carbohydrates and a lot of protein. This combination will make you stay energized and will repair your muscles fast.

Get plenty of sleep. Your body regenerates and build muscle much faster in your sleep hours so don't miss any time here; get at least your recommended 8 hours daily.

One of the best things you can do to achieve the results you seek is to find a mentor. This can be a more experience friend, a personal trainer, or one of your gym mates; having someone encouraging you and giving you advice speeds up the process dramatically because you are going to be more motivated and committed.

Follow this advice and you will start to make muscle in no time. Keep trying hard all the time and don't be discouraged in you don't see results in a week, eventually all your work will have its rewards.
