Swedish massage, deep tissue, healing touch, bioenergetics, acupressure and reflexology are just a few of the bodyworks I've experienced since falling in love with the physical benefits and affordable pricing offered by local massage therapy schools. Want to explore your options?

Price. You can pay full retail at a fancy salon or enjoy a hefty "win-win" discount when you check yourself into a massage therapy school.

The average retail cost of a one hour massage is $76. You can expect to pay, on average, $30, for the same massage at a massage therapy school. To locate a school near you visit http://www.naturalhealers.com or http://www.massagetherapy.com. Then, there is the old fashioned way - your phone book.

Massage Therapy and Bodywork ABCs. There is a wide variety of massage modalities. To follow are a few "get started" suggestions. Be sure to discuss your particular needs with the therapist.

Bodywork: ACUPRESSURE
Acupressure lets fingers do the walking and the pressing of key points on the surface of the skin. Each part corresponds to a part of the brain or inner organs. The objective is to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force (sometimes known as chi or qi ) to aid healing.

Acupuncture uses the same points as acupressure, but employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle, but firm pressure of hands and feet.

Benefits of Acupressure: Particularly effective in allaying pain without the harmful side effects associated with drugs. Also highly recommended in conditions where physiotherapy is recommended including rheumatoid arthritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, backache, prolapsed disc, osteoarthritis and other diseases of soft tissues, muscles, bones and joints.

Bodywork: BIOENERGETICS
In this form of bodywork the bioenergetic psychotherapist studies muscular patterns and introduces the client to physical expressions or exercises to help them experience and release patterns of constriction in their body. Bioenergetics believes in the correlation between the mind and the body and that a person's history, e.g. mental and emotional abuse as a child, can be a direct cause of general anxiety, depression or other hidden emotions that manifest in the body as stress in various forms including post traumatic stress disorder, depression, chronic pains, anxiety and phobias ...

Benefits of Bioenergetics: As these repressed emotions emerge and are purged out of the body, clients feel a dramatic increase in their energy level and an increased capacity for breath, joy, happiness, love, sadness, fear, sensuality and anger. As the mind releases so follows the body and chronic pains, stresses and conditions fade. For more information visit:

Bodywork: CHAIR MASSAGE
Aka the on-site massage, uses a specially designed massage chair to deliver relief to office workers. The technique is dated but never out of style! In fact centuries-old illustrated Japanese block prints show people having just emerged from a nearby bath, receiving massage while seated on a low stool!

Benefits of Chair Massage: Portable and delivers powerful relief to office workers suffering from stiff neck, aching wrists, crumpled shoulders, tight back muscles, strained tendons and elbow stain, AKA, workplace fatigue. A typical 15 minute massage boosts moral along with blood and lymph flow increasing energy, metal clarity and decreasing susceptibility to repetitive stress injuries, like carpal tunnel syndrome.

More Cs ... colon therapy, conscious bodywork, connective tissue massage, colorpuncture, craniosacral therapy...

Yes, you have a lot of ABCs and options. Whether you just want to just feel better and improve your performance or clear up a painful chronic condition, there is a bodywork for you. For optimal benefit it is recommended that you receive a minimum of two sessions a month (every other week) and that you take measures to decrease stress, increase your exercise and rest and improve your diet.

Da. Am I telling you something you didn't know? Take care. Be well.
