Fred Van Lente has done it all - in the world of Marvel comics, that is. He's put supervillains in Gowanus, Spider-Man in Red Hook, and vampires in DUMBO. But all this pales in comparison to the Chaos King.

Van Lente hails from Boerum Hill and uses Kings County for the setting in plenty of his storylines. The diversity of borough can be pretty inspirational to say the least. His latest project, "Chaos War" will feature superheroes and supervillains from all over the Marvel universe. The story pits good against evil as reality itself is the intended victim of Chaos King.

Chaos King is the super-supervillain. His diabolical plan includes bringing down the Underworld, the Dream Realm, and even the pantheons of the Greek, Norse, and all other gods throughout the Marvel universe. In short, he wants to destroy the multiverse.

Issue No. 1 was released in October 2010 and has been three years in the making for the 38-year-old writer. For the last five years, Van Lente has been trying to break into the business in a big way. This new release may finally be that break.

Though still relatively a newcomer, Van Lente has enjoyed much success, along with Ryan Dunlavey, with the formation of Evil Twin Comics and the subsequent release of the "Action Philosophers" comic series which caught the attention of Marvel.

You can pick up "Chaos War" at just about any comic book store in Brooklyn including Bergen Street Comics (Park Slope), Bulletproof Comix (Flatbush), Galaxy Comics (Park Slope), and St. Mark's Comics (Brooklyn Heights) to name a few.
