Bogart's Bogie Bombs Review

Amy Brantley
One of my favorite places to eat is Bogart's. Their food is not only delicious, but the portions are huge. While visiting the restaurant earlier this week, my boyfriend and I decided to try a new appetizer. The Bogie Bombs sounded absolutely delicious. We both love spicy foods and this appetizer was a fun adaptation of the classic jalapeno popper. The appetizer had a delightfully Southern twist and the description was mouthwatering. But, would they be as good as they sounded?

Bogart's Bogie Bombs are fresh jalapenos stuffed with pimento cheese that are then wrapped in bacon. Pimento cheese is a favorite among Southerners and of course everyone loves bacon. There was no way this appetizer could be bad.

When the appetizers arrived, I was a bit surprised at the large container of ranch dressing. I've had hundreds of jalapeno poppers in my time, if not thousands, and have never needed much dressing to dip them in. These appetizers were an exception though. While many jalapeno poppers have had the seeds and membranes removed from the peppers, these do not. These little poppers are hot. However, with that being said, these were some of the best jalapeno poppers I have ever had. Not only were they nice and spicy, but the combination of smokey bacon, creamy pimento cheese and hot pepper was unbelievable.

This appetizer was a bit expensive costing $6.99 for six. However, this is in line with appetizer prices at other local restaurants and the poppers were quite large compared to other restaurants. Still, it seemed a bit high, especially when you consider the cost of the ingredients.

I would have to give the Bogie Bombs 4.5 out 5 stars. The only reason I knock off half a star is the price. With that being said, I plan to order these many times in the future. These are way too good to pass on. If you're ever in Western North Carolina and want to try something new, head to a Bogart's location and enjoy this delicious appetizer. Just be prepared for a burst of heat and tremendous flavor.

With a name like that, I had to stop by to find out more. I think I'll pass though. I've got a delicate palate, so I know these would be too hot for me!
