The Broncos have only one game against a top-10 opponent this year, and it was played last night. Against the Hokies, the Broncos jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, as they looked to live up to the early hype and then some. Yet the Hokies took advantage of mistakes, and went on to have a 30-26 lead with minutes to go.
If that score held, the Boise State football schedule 2010 would have been meaningless to the BCS picture. Most teams are eliminated from the national title race with one loss, but a few one-loss teams from power conferences have stayed alive. Since the Broncos are from the WAC, one loss would be the death blow to all BCS hopes.
Instead, the third-ranked Broncos got a late defense stop, leading to Kellen Moore's march down the field for the go-ahead touchdown. Despite the late deficit, and the hostile pro-Hokie crowd at FedEx Field, the Broncos stayed alive. But now, the Boise State football schedule 2010 is considered unlikely to test them like that again.
The only truly difficult game left on the slate may be the Sept. 25 battle against Oregon State. However, the Broncos get that game at home, where they are virtually unbeatable. Other than that, the Boise State football schedule 2010 is filled with beatable WAC and West Coast opponents. In fact, their most difficult conference matchups, against Nevada and Fresno State, don't come until November.
By that time, the Broncos could be No. 2 or No. 1 in the nation already, and subject to the most heated debate in BCS history. With a schedule considered this easy, can a non-BCS team get to the national championship with it? If it was any other mid-major besides Boise State football, it might be a very long shot.
It all depends on what No. 1 and No. 2 Alabama and Ohio State do the rest of the year, and whether the Broncos can actually win these "easy" games. If the Hokies wind up not being a top 10 team at the end, that might hurt as well. But for now, the Boise State football schedule 2010 has to be taken one game at a time -- with the next one at Wyoming on Sept. 18.
