The Boise State Broncos finished last season with an undefeated record of 14-0, and beat then-undefeated TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. The school was still shut out of the national title discussion, revealing how broken the BCS system still is at this point. They bring that winning streak into the 2010 regular season, but start the season against one of their toughest opponents of the year. This Virginia Tech team is not one that you can look past, and the high-powered offense of Boise State is going to need to be very precise if they want to escape Landover, Maryland, with a win on what they are falsely calling a neutral site.
Virginia Tech finished last year with a 10-3 overall record, proving just how good this team can be. Adding Boise State to their 2010 schedule is something they should be given a lot of credit for doing, because teams from the SEC have been shying away from that for years. Tech also rewarded itself with two very weak opponents in the non-conference schedule after Boise State, so that should give them plenty of time to get ready for ACC play. Being in the Coastal Division is not going to be very easy for Tech, because there are four teams ranked in the Top 18 there right now.
The Boise State vs. Virginia Tech game is only hours away from its live broadcast on ESPN, and it should bring a very nice end to an opening weekend that was packed with mostly blow-out games of high ranking teams conquering opponents they had to pay to come to town. The types of games that college football fans would rather see are like tonight's game, and hopefully the poll voters really recognize the winner of this game with a boost in the rankings.
