Boise State Win in 2010 Fiesta Bowl Creates AP and Coaches Poll Chaos

Boise State Ended the Season 14-0 with a Win Over TCU on Monday Night

Boise State won the 2010 Fiesta Bowl and with it created epic chaos. Boise State beat TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl, pushing their record to 14-0 on the season. In a perfect world, Boise State would then get the chance to play the winner of the Texas vs. Alabama game for the national championship. This is an imperfect world though, and it is about to be proven by the hypocritical voters in both the AP and Coaches Poll. There will be one final set of polls at the end of the season, immediately following the BCS National Championship Game, where voters will determine the final ranks of the top 25 teams.

Now logic dictates that Boise State "should" be the #2 team in the country, as they finished 14-0 and will be one of only two undefeated teams left in the country. That's the logical way of looking at things. If you believe the people who vote in the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll, then you already know that logic will be thrown out the window when they make their votes at the end of the 2010 season. Follow my line of thinking here, and you will see just how hypocritical the voters in these polls will prove themselves to be.

In the final polls of the regular season, Alabama and Texas were the top two teams in both. So, of course those two teams play for the national championship. The #3 team was Cincinnati (undefeated), the #4 team was TCU (undefeated) and the #5 team was Florida. Boise State was placed at #6 in both of the polls, placing them behind Florida, with the voters stating that they felt Florida was the better team. Florida beat Cincinnati (the #3 team in the country), one of Alabama and Texas has to lose, and the TCU (which was ahead of them) also lost. In one scenario the winner of Alabama and Texas gets #1 with the loser getting #2. In another scenario they don't give that much respect to the loser, and therein lays the chaos.

If the voters in the AP and the Coaches Polls are going to prove themselves not to be complete hypocrites they have to STILL vote for Florida to be above Boise State in the polls. Now I completely disagree with the original rankings myself, so I of course disagree with this result as well. The thing about the voting though, is that the polls will really prove themselves to be completely worthless if Florida is suddenly stated to be a worse team that Boise State in the final rankings. These voters stated again and again that Cincinnati and Florida were both better teams that TCU and Boise State, so if Florida beats the best of the three teams, following the poll voters logic, it means Florida has to remain ahead of the winner of the other two.

So what is going to happen when the final votes are tabulated? Are the voters going to prove that the polls are worthless and that they are hypocrites? Or are we about to see the voters admit that they were wrong all season and give Boise State the #2 ranking at the end of the 2010 bowl season.

Stop Hatin. FLORIDA IS #2 and ALABAMA is #1. Cincy needs to get a Kleenex, and Boise needs to schedule better.
