You've probably heard of Zumba and Turbo Kick and maybe even Piloxing, but have you heard of Bokwa Fitness? It is a huge fitness craze throughout the U.S. and numerous other countries.
What is BOKWA®?
Bokwa Fitness is an exercise dance class that combines cardio conditioning, strength training and flexibility. Furthermore, it integrates customary African dance with boxing maneuvers. The name came from a combination of two other words; "BO" stands for light boxing and "KWA" symbolizes the traditional dance Kwaito.
A certified fitness instructor and dancer, Paul Mavi, created Bokwa Fitness in 2000. Mavi says "The magic of it all is something called click-click. Click-click is a two-step that you do that actually changes in the next step or move forward. It allows you to know where you're going."
A Bakwa DVD will soon be available to purchase, and you can check out a sneak peak of what it involves. You can also search for a nearby class to join the party with others, and a preview of what a class looks like can be found on YouTube.
You can feel the energy just by watching. Bokwa is definitely a lean, mean exercise routine. Do you think you can keep up?
If you want to become a Bokwa Fitness Instructor, now is the perfect time since this workout is so new.
Bokwa and the Guinness Book of World Records
The Bokwa Fitness company held their first Bokwathon on Dec. 11, 2011, in an attempt to set a new Guinness Book of World Record for having the most people present at an exercise class in the United Kingdom.
Bokwa is for everyone
Bokwa was created with the intent to benefit everyone, from auditory learners to kinesthetic and visual learners.
Bokwa is the only fitness program to date that uses American Hand Sign Language and BOKWA Hand Signs to teach everyone in the class, including those who are hearing impaired.
Do you feel that you are not very coordinated? Bokwa is still for you because the steps were specially designed using numbers, letters and words. The instructor will use this to tell the class what to spell out with their feet.
While Bokwa is a challenging workout, it can be adjusted for anyone at any fitness level.
What others are saying
Check out this video to see what Certified Bokwa Instructors are saying about this energetic workout, and find out what got them interested in teaching the class.
Brian Whelan, owner of Foothill Gym, believes that Bokwa has the feel of a nightclub. He also said, "People absolutely adore it."
Monica Wong of San Gabriel says, "I remember I was on the treadmill and I was watching the class and I was almost falling off the treadmill because I was following the class. So then I decided to join." Wong claims to have lost 15-pounds just by adding Bokwa to her workout routine. She encourages, "Just give it a chance. Try it out, and you never know what you're going to get."
Do you want an intense workout with African, Latin and trendy House and dance beats? Do you want a fun workout that is completely different than anything you've ever tried before? Are you aiming to lose or maintain weight? If so, you want to try Bokwa.
Don't forget to purchase Bokwa clothing!
