Bold Makeup Trends for Spring

Laura Leiva
During the Spring 2010 runway shows, bold and vibrant makeup was seen everywhere. Pink, green, purple, turquoise and candy-inspired shades are trendy eye colors, while bold coral or fruity red lips are warm and perfect for a spring look.

Whether you are adventurous when applying makeup or like to be subtle, bold makeup trends are adaptable to any style. They also add a splash of color to your outfit, no matter what you are wearing. Here are a few trends and tips for you to try this spring:

Eyes

Go bold by adding pops of color on the inner and outer eye. Not a fan of shadow? Use an eyeliner in a vibrant color to line the upper lashes with color. Many of the eye colors come in a variety of textures for you to choose from, including shimmer, matte and glitter. During the day, stick to matte textures to avoid looking overdone, and save the shimmer and glitter textures for night. Wear the shadow by either applying color to the entire lid, or choose one shade to apply to the inner eye and sweep out over the eyelid to the just above the crease. Take a second color, apply it on the outer corner of the eye and line the lower lashes about halfway. Add two coats of mascara and lightly line the bottom lashes with a dark eyeliner. Keep the rest of the makeup neutral to accentuate the eyes.

Lips

Bold, colorful lips are trendy during spring. Since lipstick can appear heavy, lipstains and glosses work best and come in a variety of colors. On the runways, coral and orange-red lips were most common and make for a perfect transition from the darker colors in winter to the warm and vibrant summer colors. Use red lip colors that have shades of orange or pink to brighten up the face, and stay neutral with the rest of your makeup. Use only a few sweeps of mascara on the eyes and foundation to keep the look simple and focus on the lips.

Lip glosses are a perfect way to experiment with brighter colors, since they add color to the lips but it don't come off as strong as if you wore the same shade in lipstick.

No matter what your skin tone or type is, you can wear bold makeup--you just have to adjust it to your needs. If you are someone who does not wear a lot of makeup or feels hesitant to try these new colors, start out slow by using varying shades of the bold colors until you are comfortable with using brighter shades.
