Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge Disney World - a Restaurant Review

Boma Located at Walt Disney World Resort

Boma is an African themed restaurant located at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Walt Disney World Resort, and Orlando, Florida. Boma has a reasonable prices buffet for $26.99 per adult and $12.99 per child. The all you can eat buffet features a wide selection of food with a multicultural influence. Instead of a traditional buffet line, the buffet is divided into "pods" with chefs nearby to answer any questions.

I am a huge fan of the "pod" concept. I have seen it at other restaurants, mainly casino restaurants, and it really saves time by being able to skip from one pod to another instead of having to file past food that I'm not interested in. All of the pods were clearly labeled with signs, plus a helpful chef was always nearby.

Boma is a beautiful restaurant that showcases the kitchen, a wood-burning grill, and a rotisserie. I personally like to see food made so I'm always happy to see an open kitchen. It just makes the restaurant feel cleaner and more caring on filling empty food spots.

The buffet has a wide selection of African themed food but it also has a fair share of American themed food for the less adventurous guest. My favorite African themed food was the Potatoes with Afritude. They are basically potato wedges with an interesting spiced flavor. I also enjoyed the prime rib, salad, and mashed sweet potatoes.

The buffet has an amazing soup selection. The soup selection changes every night but they have served creamy seafood bisque, chicken corn chowder, pumpkin spice soup, and lamb and carrot stew. The creamy seafood bisque was amazing. The buffet also has an amazing salad selection, fruit selection, and dessert selection.

The only issue I had was a lot of the desserts contained alcohol. This surprised me for a restaurant that is advertised as a "family fun restaurant." I realize the alcohol content in most desserts is very small, hardly noticeable, but it was noticeable to me. I am not a huge fan of alcohol in desserts. Luckily, Boma had plenty of fresh fruit to pick from so for dessert I mainly had strawberries and pineapple.

As with all restaurants on Walt Disney World property, the restaurant is very busy. The pod style buffet is good for crowds but the entrée pod (meat station), always had a long line. It is not fun standing in line for 10 minutes on a small slice of prime rib.

Overall, I did enjoy the dinner. The food selection was great; service was great, with the only issue being the crowds at the restaurant. I give the restaurant 4 out of 5 stars.
