Priced at about a dollar and a half per can, the price cannot be beat. It is available in most grocery stores, unlike other non-toxic products that require a special trip to a health food store or an internet purchase. Packaged in a shaker container (like Comet) it is convenient to use and store. It contains no bleaches, dyes, or perfumes. It is safe to use with allergies or sensitivities to chemicals. What is it exactly that comprises Bon Ami? According to the website and container "Bon Ami Polishing Cleanser is made from calcite & feldspar mineral abrasives, and biodegradable detergent. It does not contain chlorine, perfume, or dye."
It can be used in most every room of your house and is safe to be used around children and pets. As with all cleaners and powders, it should be kept out of reach of children. The powder cleans deep down, without scratching. In fact, the trademark on the can is a little chick, because chicks don't scratch for food for the first few days of life.
For over 120 years, Bon Ami has been used to safely and effectively clean homes inside and out. Numerous manufacturers recommend Bon Ami for cleaning their dish and hardware products. The Bon Ami web site offers a comprehensive guide for using the product inside and out. Scroll through the list of things that you need to clean from cutting boards to shoes and the site offers detailed instructions for making Bon Ami work for you. I use it for general bathroom and kitchen cleaning, but I also have tried some of the suggestions on the website. It thoroughly cleaned my daughters play shoes that had dirt caked it the white leather that had not come clean in the washing machine. It removes dirt from painted woodwork without scratching or bleaching. It works to remove lingering candle wax on my candleholders. It removes the silver marks utensils leave on dishes and china.
Once you have tried it, it will be your good friend too.
