Bon Jovi: A Look at Where He is Currently At

One of the Most Successful Bands in the History of Music Continues Touring and Recording

Bon Jovi, a band who started out in a small town in New Jersey called Sayreville has now sold over 120 million records worldwide and has performed in front of over 32 million dedicated fans is still strong if not stronger than ever. Fronted by legendary lead singer and namesake Jon Bon Jovi, the band was a huge success in the 80's, but 20 something years later they still continue to sell out arenas and stadiums, and believe me, they are no reunion esque band, they are a band who continued their success throughout the years and don't intend to quit anytime soon.

Currently on their Lost Highway Tour, Bon Jovi was asked to perform at a new arena in Newark, NJ in hopes of revitalizing the city, making the city a safer place to go and have a good time. Being from NJ himself, he accepted of course, but the decision couldn't have been that easy, could it have? There were other offers on the table for Jon where he could have played the same concert schedule at either the IZod Center (Formally Continental Airlines Arena) in East Rutherford, NJ or the iconic MSG in NYC, but there was no thinking involved here, he chose Newark in a heartbeat. Bon Jovi performed 10 historic nights at the new Prudential Center in Newark and each and every one of them were rocking, and sold out might I add.

Going back to the history of Bon Jovi, the band had two moderately successful albums in 1984 and 1985, which was totally fine for the band seeing that they scored huge on their next album, they must have knew it or something? When "Slippery When Wet" came out in 1986, this was definitely the turning point in Jon and the band's lives, because they were now a huge deal. The album "New Jersey", which is dedicated to his home-state was yet another huge hit, which by the numbers can't be denied. Slippery When Wet and New Jersey combined sold nearly 20 million copies in the US alone, which is just outstanding. Keep in mind that Bon Jovi was pretty much at the start of their career and they would only get bigger.

Getting back to the present and a few other albums that were created along the way, Lost Highway is a country
ock type album with songs that really tell the lives of the band. If you listen to the lyrics, there are a few songs on it that are so passionate, they will make you teary eyed, but this wasn't the main intention by Jon and the boys because there are plenty of upbeat tunes to keep the avid Bon Jovi fan happy in a sense that they wouldn't naturally want to listen to just "downer" type songs. With tunes like the title track "Lost Highway", "You Want To Make a Memory", "I Love This Town", and two duets, one with with LeAnn Rimes, "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore", and another with Jon's Country Cousins "Big & Rich" titled "We Got It Goin' On", this album will surely catch your attention as it did to pretty much everyone who bought it. Bon Jovi's tenth studio album reached number one on the Billboard Top 200.

The current tour "Lost Highway" is definitely sparking a lot of interest. When the first leg of the tour started, tickets sold out in minutes and Jon and his buddies knew this had to be big, especially seeing their tenth album reached number one all over the place. After this news, Bon Jovi decided they would open up the Prudential Center (continued from the top), and announce a full scaled, 16 country tour that was literally quoted by Jon, "We will be coming to you, you don't naturally need to come to us." Great news for Bon Jovi fans because there have been nearly 100 tour dates confirmed and more are being added as I type. Currently in Canada, the first leg of Bon Jovi's tour is coming to a close, but after the holidays, they will be off to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Bon Jovi hasn't played New Zealand in over 12 years, so it's quite a big deal over there.

There are currently four legs of the "Lost Highway Tour", but we all know where Bon Jovi ends his touring, right in his backyard of Giant's Stadium, although the dates haven't been confirmed yet, he announced that he would be back in the summer of 08 at Giant's Stadium at the end of his last show at the Prudential Center. Bon Jovi is known for his long concerts consisting over 24 + songs and his extra long encores that sometimes consist of 6 or even more songs, but this Jersey boy hasn't thrown in the towel yet and it doesn't look like he is going to anytime soon, he is young still so let him and his fans (including myself) enjoy it.

For current tour dates and updates, you can visit http://www.bonjovi.com/bonjovi/ontheroad_tourdates.php . They take away the dates that have already been played, but they keep adding more dates seeing the tickets sell out so fast, so grab them while you can. Remember the tour name "Lost Highway", this is one for the record books as I believe he has sold out every concert so far, if not very very close (above 99 %), not bad for a band who has been around for around 25 years.

I love Bon Jovi. Not only is he talented, but he seems to be a nice person despite his fame. Interesting article!

Julia -- Jon moved to NYC so his kids could go to school in the city. I'm sure there are a few more reasons, but that is a big one I heard. He still has his house in NJ however, he will always be involved with NJ. =)
