Located in the town of Forreston, right smack in the beautiful North Texas countryside, Bon Ton Vintage truly has to be seen to be believed. This vintage shop is housed in an old building that dates back to the early 1900s, and walking inside is literally like walking back in time! The two-story building is set up like an Old Tyme department store, with the children's clothes on the bottom level, and the menswear and ladies wear on the upper level (just be careful when climbing up those stairs, they are very steep and narrow!) What sets this shop apart from all the others in this area is the ambiance. Ladies, the women's clothing department on the upper level is nothing short of spectacular! Racks and racks of gorgeous garments from all eras are neatly organized and coordinated, and fabulous accessories from long ago are housed in nice glass cases, just like you would have found in a real department store way back when. On the walls, hang pictures of glamourous film stars from Hollywood's Golden era such as Lana Turner and Rita Hayworth, and wonderful big band era music is usually playing from the speakers as you shop! In addition to all the fabulous vintage clothes, Bon Ton also carries out of print books, lp records, and assorted knick knacks.
Since the building is over a century old, be advised that there is no air conditioning. If you shop here in the summer, make sure you are dressed in cool clothes such as shorts and a t-shirt or tank top. Carry a bottled water inside with you (sometimes the staff will offer you something cold to drink while you shop also). In the wintertime, just make sure you have a coat, but don't bundle up too much because as we all know, Texas winters are nothing to fear ;) Also be advised that alot of the merchandise does not have price tags, HOWEVER, you will get some truly FABULOUS deals here and the more you buy, the better bargain you will usually get. Prices are very fair and super reasonable. Store hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
I have shopped at vintage shops and antique stores all over the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and this is by far the best one (not to mention my favorite)! Those who discover it always come back again and again for wonderful vintage items and great bargains. It truly combines the thrill of antiquing with an unforgettable, old fashioned ambiance that will be sure to win over any vintage lover's old heart and soul!
