Bonding with Your Mother-in-law

Amanda Dean
So many men and women are complaining about the situation with their mother in law. Instead of continuing the feud, why not try bonding with your mother in law? You may never completely and fully get along with your mother in law. There are always disagreements, but you could make your relationship with her just a little bit better.

When you are having a girls' night out or a girls' lunch, why not include your mother in law? Just inviting her is making an effort. Your mother in law will get to spend some quality time with you, and see your relaxed side. This also gives you and your Mother in law a chance to bond in a more relaxed and comfortable setting.

Call your mother in law, just to say hello and how are you. This can be a great way to break the ice. Who knows that one phone call could be the breaker to a wonderful conversation, and a better way for you and her to bond.

When there are grandchildren involved the situation with your mother in law can be even tougher. Your mother in law may be trying to tell you how to raise your children, or spoiling your children. Whatever the case maybe having kids in the situation is difficult.

Try inviting your mother in law to your children's activities. If your child is having a soccer game, a school play or a school parade. Invite your mother in law along, this can be a small push to a great way to chat and bond with your mother in law. This can also help your mother in law feel included in her grandchildren's lives.

Although you may not always want your mother in law's advice on raising children. Let her know that you appreciate her giving you advice. After all you did marry her son or daughter, so she must have done something right. By accepting her advice she may not nag as much about the things you do with your kids. Therefore the stress of the situation is decreased. Taking her advice can open a doorway to some of her stories from raising her children, giving you a bit of background about your Mother in law.

I know many of you are thinking why should I do all of the work. Well your not doing all of the work, your giving your mother in law a chance to take what you've done to heart. If your mother in law accepts what you are offering then the bonding could be the start of a wonderful relationship.
