The "Bones" crime fighters investigate an over-done victim who was found roasted inside her tanning bed in the February 17, 2011 "The Bikini in the Soup" episode. Agent Booth, Doctor Brennan and Hodgins review the scene to determine if Wendy Bovitz was killed accidentally after falling asleep inside a home tanning bed with a broken timer.

Cam pushes the team to work quickly so her romantic Valentine's Day plans with Paul are not derailed by a case. Brennan is asked out by a man identified as Douglas, but she politely turns him down. Once Clark determines that the victim was stabbed through the heart, all evening plans are replaced with the hunt for the killer. Cam clings to hope that the case is solved soon so the team can still celebrate the love infused holiday. Angela reassures Hodgens that the romance has not died, she just is not feeling like initiating anything while pregnant.

Bones rejects another suitor. Cam gets irritated with Brennan's lack of interest in a social life and fears she will be stuck in the lab late into the evening searching for DNA beneath the fingernail of the victim's broken finger. Angela worries about Booth spending Valentine's Day alone after his recent break-up with Hannah. She also discovers a file on the victim's computer labeled "In case of death - if anything happens to me, it was my husband" and includes photos of her bruised and beaten. Booth questions her estranged husband Greg, who says it was Wendy's first husband who beat her.

Booth and Brennan share their irritation with the concept of Valentine's Day while questioning suspects. The father or the bride has argued with Wendy of the cost of a wedding to a future son-in-law he was not even thrilled with the night before. Cam discovers DNA on file from the bride's brother for a previous crime which revealed her as a primary suspect.

Brennan turns down another invitation and Booth states he will probably spend the holiday at the shooting range. The pair trick Greg with evidence they don't actually have to get a confession from the angry estranged husband. Cam is picked up in a limo by her date, Hodgens makes a slime mold that smells like roses for Angela and Booth hits the shooting range. Bones surprises him with the reproduction of a "tommygun" and they take turns shooting targets.
