Bones on Fox: Not Just Another Crime Show

The first time I saw a preview for Bones, on Fox, I thought "Oh great. Here comes another CSI-type show." I just couldn't stand the thought of seeing another crime/cop/detective television show being aired. But I absolutely love David Boreanaz from his Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel years, so I decided to watch the first episode and see how it went. I am so glad that I decided to give it a go because Bones is not just another crime show!

Bones is a tv show that is all about a woman named Dr. Temperance Brennen, whose nickname is Bones, (played by Emily Deschanel) and how she deals with life and the people that she works with, who are also her closest friends. She doesn't have a life outside of work so it's no wonder that her closest friends are the people she works with. Dr. Brennen is a famous forensic anthropologist and novelist who works for the Jeffersonian Institute. She's the one that everyone calls when no one else can identify a dead body. She's the best!

Temperance is an interesting person, to say the least. She was abandoned by her parents as a young child and was raised in foster care. She isn't the most pleasant person to be around, at times, because she is very lacking in her ability to socialize. She has always kept to herself and never really acquired the ability to identify with other people. Dr. Brennen is highly intelligent and very scientific when it comes to dealing with other people's social behaviours. But in the end she is a sensitive and caring human being who only wants to be loved and to find answers about the mysteries of her past.

The show Bones isn't just about murders, crime scenes and dead bodies. It's about the people that those dead bodies represent. It's about the hardwork that Temperance and her team put into identifying these people so that they will have a face and justice will be done on their behalf. Not only that, but how these dead bodies and their stories effect the world of the people identifying them. You can easily see the anger, hurt, sadness and disgust in the faces of Dr. Brennen's team of experts when the circumstances surrounding their victims' deaths are exposed.

I often enjoy the increasing sexual tensions that are displayed between Dr. Brennen and her frisky, icecream truck shooting, FBI detective, partner Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz). Admit it, who hasn't wanted to shoot an annoying icecream truck at one point or another? Especially when you are talking on your cell phone, while walking down a sidewalk beside Dr. Brennen, who is talking your other ear off, and being followed by an annoying icecream truck blaring it's hypnotic little icecream tune. I love this character, he's no where near like his character Angel. I love the humor and qurky comebacks that Agent Booth employs often in Bones. The sexual tension between Brennen and Booth is priceless. I'm just waiting for that one episode when they will finally do something about all of that tension.

Along with her partner, Booth, Dr. Brennen works with Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin) -- an artist who uses computer technology and her own smarts to reconstruct a face for the dead bodies, Zack Addy (Eric Millegan) -- Dr. Brennen's assistant and grad student, Dr. Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne) -- the bug expert and Dr. Camille Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) -- the person in charge, head of forensics and also an EX of Agent Booth. With the help and higher mental genius of everyone in the group, all of the "bones" that are assigned to them are always identified and the mysteries of their deaths are solved.

The show Bones isn't all about the dead bodies and solving the crimes. It is about these wonderful characters and how they live their lives. How they interact with one another and how much they care about each other. There are arguments, there are love interests, there is a lot of sexual interests and a lot of halarious humor.

Be warned that some of the scenes in Bones are very graphic depictions of dead bodies in various states of decomposition. Some are much grosser (is that even a word) than others, so even though Bones aires at 8pm on Wednesday nights, I do not recommend letting younger child watch Bones with you. Check out Bones! You just find out that you love the show as much as I do.
