Sweet Tweet, Producer Announced on Twitter Shows Pick Up for Two More Seasons

It was announced by the executive producer Hart Hanson, on Saturday May 16, 2009, via Twitter that the TV series Bones is being picked up for TWO additional seasons by the FOX TV Network. The announcement came after disputes between the network and the studio over licensing fees. This news may placate fans that were disappointed at the trite cliff hanger at the end of the spring 2009, forth season. Bones fans were expecting a sizzling scene between the sheets between Booth (David Boreanaz) and Temperance Brennan, nicknamed Bones (Emily Deschanel). Although the writers gave the long expected bedroom scene to their audience with one hand, they took it away with the other when they revealed the saucy scene in the bedroom was merely a delusion caused by Booth's altered post-surgerical-state (the week prior Sealy Booth had emergent brain surgery to remove a brain tumor).

Admittedly, the writers were clever in using Booth's altered-state to manufacture an alternate reality in which the Jeffersonian became The Lab, a nightclub. The club was being managed by the married pair. It isn't too surprising to find that the married pair was Booth and Brennan (of course not playing their normal FBI and anthropological selves, respectively). Hence, the bedroom scene was able to take place. In the alternate reality, Angela lacks artistic skills, Sweets has an amazing voice for pop songs, and Zack Addy gets a "get out of jail free card" so to speak, for the night. A variety of Brennan's lab assistants are allowed to have roles throughout the season finale, as if it were the end of a high school musical where characters are permitted back on stage for one last bow. Hodgins provides pithy commentary through voice-overs for he is not only a regular at The Lab, but also a crime novelist. Caroline Julian remains in the type-casted role as assistant US Attorney. Cam and Jared play the investigative team of police detectives. Sound like the makings of a murder? Of course it does, Cam and Jared were trying to figure out "who-done-it" to the man discovered beaten and shot in the men's room, at The Lab. As I don't wish to spoil all the fun, you will have to watch the re-runs, by the box set DVD, or watch Bones online to catch the final show of Season 4. However, highly recommend is watching the week prior to the finale which was a better example of the excellent style of the writers of the show.

As expected from the beginning of the show, the majority of the show was Booth's Dream. True to form, the ending was as expected. Booth woke up. Lo and behold, no surprise here, he has amnesia. Plausible after brain surgery but really...Were the writers so uncertain of the ultimate pick-up of the next season that they needed to introduce this cliché for an ending? The viewers will never know. The most exciting cliff hanger of the moment, generated by the finale was will the various lab assistants that were shown have had their last bow in the finale? As we already know, Booth will regain his memory or the next two seasons will be sure to be a bore. Hopefully, the high standards of writing that fans to which the fans were accustom will shine through instead of the cheap theatrical style tricks used in the finale. In any case, fans are grateful for the sweet tweet, on Twitter that the show is being picked up by the FOX network for two more seasons.
