Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2011

Melanie D. Dameron
What started as a small event in 2002 with some jam session bands has turned into a mega event called the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, which I can't wait to attend. The event is basically a camp out on steroids with a music and arts infusion as the steroids. Four days of celebration from June 9-12 on 700 acres of land with 12 stages and over 175 acts are scheduled to take place in Manchester, Tenn.

There are so many headliner stars (Eminem, Lil' Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Omar Souleyman, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, etc.) attending this year that it boggles my mind. On the cinema tip, it was just announced that even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be there to introduce the flick called "On the Shoulders of Giants" and there will be an opportunity to meet him personally as well. Three performers that I am overly excited to see perform are:

Eminem

I had the opportunity to see Eminem live in concert in Las Vegas with Jayz, Beyonce and Busta Rhymes. I didn't realize I was such a huge fan until he started
performing. Eminem was making a surprise appearance, but he rocked the house. Everybody was on their feet getting their groove on. I know he'll probably spit some of his old stuff, but I really want to hear his songs "Bad Meets Evil '" Fast Lane" and "No Love" featuring Lil' Wayne.

Lil' Wayne

This man to me is like the "Prince" of Hip Hop. He is always coming up with something new and fresh sounding. I think Lil' Wayne is the ultimate of collaboration artists. It seems like Lil' Wayne is literally on every artist's album from Hip Hop and R&B to Pop, Rock and Country music. I think the collaborations are so creative and fun. His crew, Young Money, has a song "Bedrock" that had me jamming every day. Maybe I'll get chance to see him perform his new joint called I can't wait to see what new sounds Lil' Wayne has come up with and to see him perform with Eminem would be a dream come true.

Kathleen Madigan

There is an old saying, "Laughter is the best medicine." A dose of Kathleen Madigan will certainly cure what ails you. I had the chance to watch her Showtime special "Gone Madigan," which sent me into fits of laughter. Her material was funny and very fresh. Kathleen was hysterical. Since I love to laugh, I can't wait to see her perform live.

To have so many great musicians, artists and entertainers in one place for four whole days is amazing to say the least. I was excited by the platform for this event and all the things there are to do. Bonnaroo has created a whole different experience as far as festivals go. Besides the music performances there are yoga classes, a 175-foot inflatable water slide, cinema, restaurants, comedy-theater, silent disco and much more. The festival creates the experience where you are living on the site and soaking up all the activities, art, music and culture. The Bonnaroo promises to be an amazing lifetime experience.
