If 2009's Bonnaroo experience is anything like the one I had in 2008, confusion and tomfoolery are the name of the game. It starts in a stuffed Wal-Mart parking lot with anxious festival goers. Soon you find yourself crossing your fingers while officials search your car. Before you know it, Bonnaroo is in full swing. Suddenly you are stumbling through the festival grounds, desperately trying to explain that you want to see a band performing at "This Tent"'"no, "That Tent"'"or is it "Which Tent?"
In 2008, crowds were willing to endure extreme heats and forego hot showers for the festivities. This is not necessarily for the bands, or even the chance to observe headphone-wearing dancers at the Silent Disco (it is exactly what it sounds like), it's the chance to truly "let your freak flag fly"'"or, watch others do it. Last year I saw an elderly woman dancing wildly to Pearl Jam while a man in a too-small Wolverine costume traversed the crowd. My nearly $300 ticket was instantly justified.
