We eat Asian food a lot, but until now have avoided the Japanese restaurants due to price. The "Beni Hana" type guys throwing knives and personally cooking your meal tend to come at a price - sure, the ambience is nice, but we eat out too much to spend that kind of money!
Bonsai is a welcome addition to Greensboro's restaurant line-up. They offer fast, healthy, and delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere. Dress up or dress down; sit at a booth, in comfy leather chairs, or at the sushi bar.
Speaking of the sushi bar - two incredibly talented chefs make an incredible range of sushi, sashimi, and nagiri. You can get everything from a California roll (nice and safe) to raw fish to delicacies like uni (sea urchin) and conch. With 118 varieties to choose from, finicky folks will find something to enjoy and sushi lovers will be delighted!
Our new favorite sushi is the "spicy crunchy salmon roll" - it's salmon wrapped around crab and avocado and some other incredible stuff, and then - get this - deep fried. I've eaten sushi for years and never had deep-fried sushi!! Bonsai's sushi is flat-out incredible. Very fresh and flavorful!
On the regular menu, start with an appetizer of soup or spring rolls. Both are excellent. Bonsai offers two "basic" entrees to build from - hibachi and teriyaki. Choose from chicken, pork, steak, or shrimp, singly or in combination, and add mixed veggies, broccoli, or mushrooms. You can also choose filet mignon or salmon. All are served with sides of white or fried rice and sweet carrots.
Because we don't drink alcohol, we can't really comment on the selection at Bonsai beyond saying that there seems to be a good mix of beers, wines, and
The servers and managers are not only friendly, they are extremely knowledgable. We asked a number of sushi questions and they answered patiently. It's very obvious that they take pride in the food they are serving and in the work they are doing at Bonsai in Greensboro!

Post a CommentAs a follow-up, I took my hubby there for his birthday. I asked the waiter what the dessert options were, as I'd just gotten home from an out-of-town trip and hadn't baked Ken a cake. He said, "I'll be right back" and then disappeared for a few minutes.
He came back with the loveliest slice of lime cheesecake, complete with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and a gorgeous carved orange! All on the house.
I love this place!
This place is awesome, we've done Friday lunch at the office two weeks in a row! Prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. Glad to see this addition to Greensboro we've needed it!
