Boobquake About Cleavage Versus Earthquakes

Boobquake is a Facebook event that has been organized recently by an Indiana student in response to offensive remarks made by an Iranian cleric. This cleric, Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, claimed that women showing their cleavage was the cause for the earthquakes that have been occurring.

The Iranian media reported that the cleric stated, "Many women who do not dress modestly... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes."

Boobquake was started accidentally by Jennifer McCreight, a 22 year-old Indiana student as a lark that she posted quickly one evening on Facebook in response to the comments by the cleric.

This Boobquake Facebook event now has over 185,000 participants to date and an additional group of 40,000 followers for the movement. Currently Boobquake groups in Washington and Vancouver are planning events today to protest the comments by baring as much cleavage as possible. While the Boobquake women are 'baring a much as they dare', seismic readings will be taken to see if there is any earthquake activities.

Hopefully they will prove the cleric wrong from when he said, "Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which increases earthquakes." The seismometers will tell the real Boobquake story.

Meanwhile Jennifer McCreight has admitted that she never thought this would get the type of attention it has received. But she also said that, "'I'm a firm believer that when someone says something so stupid and hateful, serious discourse isn't going to accomplish anything - sometimes light-hearted mockery is worthwhile."

The President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently made a prediction that frightened the 12 million occupants of the Tehran when we said that an earthquake is going to strike that city. Iran is certainly one of most earthquake prone regions in the world.

Based on this dire prediction perhaps lightening the mood a bit is the best idea that anyone could have. There is certainly no scientific evidence between women showing their cleavage and the onset of earthquakes.
