Book Buying Guide for College Students

Money Saving Tips for Students

Virginia Chavez
As the millions of college students settle into their summer vacations, some squander some cash -cash there could be more of if there were fair book selling and buy back practices.

Prices on text books range. They retail on average for about eighty dollars, unless they're science or math based in which case they can average one hundred dollars or more.

Other options exist, such as buying used text books. Discounts on used text books range from 10 - 20 percent off of their original prices.

College students usually buy brand new text books at these prices at their college bookstore then sell them back after the semester, for what seems like pennies. It's outrageous. They're sold back for pennies and put back on the shelves at prices that are marked up by eighty percent.

Sometimes books aren't even taken back, as new editions are published and old editions are no longer sold.

There are some new services that offer better, cost effective book buying options. Chegg.com is one of those options.

Chegg is a book rental service that specializes in college text books. Discounts range from 65 - 80 percent off text books retail prices. Rental prices do not depend on whether the book is new or used.

The process is easy. Their online search bar offers quick easy search access - by author, another plus. Personally, this text book buying option is my favorite. The text book shipment was fast and free. The return shipment to Chegg is also fast and free.

Chegg is environmentally conscious. Their website claims to plant a tree for every book that is rented from their service. Why not use a service that is socially responsible?

Chegg is one of the many text book rental services available online, but I can attest to the ease and reliability this site has to offer. Next time you're on the market for text books, check out Chegg.com.

I've found the best place to use is http://www.bigwords.com I use them for my buying and selling needs. They are a textbook search engine that searches all the online textbook retailers (including amazon, half, ebay etc) and rental sites (including chegg, bookrenter etc) to find you the best prices. You can even use them at the end of the semester to search for resellers to sell your books to.
