Book to Movie Adapations for 2009

Angels and Demons: Angels and Demons is the prequel to Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. It features the return of Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon and director Ron Howard. This time Langdon is called to Switzerland after the murder of a brilliant physicist. He and the physicist's daughter, Vittoria, must travel to Rome after a plot to bring down the Catholic Church is uncovered. Ayelet Zurer (Vantage Point, Munich) plays Vittoria and Ewan McGregor (Down With Love, Star Wars The Phantom Menace) plays the Camerlengo Patrick McKenna, who is helping Langdon and Vittoria along the way. The film opens May 13 and 14, 2009 throughout Europe and May 15 in the United States.

The Lovely Bones: The Lovely Bones, the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold, stars Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) as Susie, an ill-fated 14-year-old who is murdered by her neighbor. She tells her story from heaven, while watching her family. She wants revenge, but also wants her family to move on. Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz play her grief stricken parents and Stanley Tucci plays her murderer. Susan Sarandon also stars as Susie's grandmother. Peter Jackson, who directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, directs this film.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince: What summer would be complete without a new Harry Potter film? All the main stars return for the sixth installment of the Harry Potter films, with this one being directed by David Yates. The film follows Harry and his friends, now in their sixth year at Hogwarts. Harry begins taking private lessons from Dumbledore and starts to learn secrets about Voldemort. The young Voldemort is played by Ralph Fiennes nephew, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin. Harry learns more about Voldemort's past and features an ending that will surely leave people begging for the next film. The Half Blood Prince opens July 15, 2009 throughout most of the world.

My Sister's Keeper: Abigail Breslin stars in the film adaptation of the book written by Jodi Piccoult. Breslin stars as Anna Fitzgerald, a young girl born to help her sister, who suffers from leukemia. Anna's parents, played by Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric, had Anna specifically to be a donor for her sister Kate. But when Anna has had enough, she sues her parents for the right to decide what to do with her own body. She's torn between making her own decisions and helping her sister. The film is directed by Nick Cassavetes, who directed The Notebook. The film opens on June 26.
