The story is set in sunny Florida and the reader is instantly transported there. Once we meet the main character, Rebecca, we are drawn in to the story and are immersed in discovering how it all unfolds.

Rebecca, an artist and her husband Quinn a psychotherapist are a young married couple looking to purchase their first home. They come across a great deal on a home with all the accoutrements they are looking for. However, Rebecca seems to be deeply affected by an overwhelming presence in the house and has visions of a young woman's violent death. Knowing that Quinn loves the home and the potential it has, Rebecca keeps her reservations to herself and agrees to purchase the home.

Rebecca soon discovers she is pregnant and both she and Quinn are thrilled. Rebecca continues to have her doubts about the house and is reluctant to move in, especially with the baby, so she decides to do some research about the history of the home without telling Quinn. Rebecca is introduced to Sara Williams a spiritualist and book store owner. Together Sara and Rebecca delve into the history of the house and discover a young woman, Gwen Garret, was murdered there in 1972.

Sara hypnotizes Rebecca and Gwen's spirit comes through. Sara hears Gwen's tragic tale and shares it with Rebecca. Now more than ever Rebecca needs to know the truth about Gwen and what happened in the house if she is to be able to live there in peace. Rebecca decides to tell Quinn what is going on. As Quinn does not believe in the afterlife and doubts Sara's credentials, he suggests that Rebecca see a colleague, Dr. Hendrick, to help sort everything out. Dr. Hendrick actually holds the belief of the afterlife and paranormal experiences and is a renowned author on the subject.

Rebecca insists on Sara being present when she and Quinn meet with Dr. Hendrick. After exchanging pleasantries, Dr. Hendrick hypnotizes Rebecca and once again Gwen 's spirit emerges giving them all another piece of the puzzle. Quinn is mystified that something like this could actually happen, it goes against the grain of everything he was taught. He begins to feel uncomfortable about having Rebecca move into the house and announces that they will cancel the contract so they may move on with their lives and be done with Gwen. Sara explains that now that the door is opened it cannot be closed and that Rebecca must find a way to help Gwen have justice so she may move on in the afterlife and Rebecca can move on in the present. Sara promises to do all she can to help Rebecca.

Sara and Rebecca feverishly engage themselves with the daunting task of helping Gwen. Through tireless research and meetings with the people of Gwen's past, Rebecca is able to grant Gwen's wish. M.E. Piccirillo unfolds the mystery about Gwen's murder and exposes family secrets in a clear and concise manner with a few twists and turns until you reach the conclusion and realize what a perfect ending!

Whether or not you believe in the afterlife, this book will grab and hold your attention throughout.
