Book Review: How Cheap Can You Get?

The Art of Being a Cheapskate

Brian Munger
If you are looking for a humorous book that will be great bathroom material, then look no further than Brian Munger's book titled "How Cheap Can You Get?" This book gives the reader 134 tips on how to become a certified cheapskate. It's a very shameless, creative and entertaining book. On occasion, it is even crude, but all in good fun. You can tell right off the bat that the book is whacky, as the cover of the book has a man peeing (or pretending to pee) in the shower, as he is executing the "save a flush, save the water bill" technique. In addition to providing tips on saving on the water bill, the author provides shameless ways to save on power bills; grocery bills; gas money; dating; restaurant tabs; and various other topics.

One key tip he gives guys on dating is to make their dates as late as possible. The idea behind this is that if you have a very late date, like around 9 P.M. or 10 P.M., then there is a good chance that your date probably already had dinner, hence, you will not have to buy your date dinner and wine. If you have a late date, you will probably just have to buy her a couple cocktails or beers, which will still be a lot cheaper than buying her a full course dinner with drinks and appetizers! This is a definitely a useful tip that can be used by all men who are in the dating world! Dating can be very expensive for a single man, so any ideas on saving some dough will be greatly appreciated.

There are no boundaries with this book. The author even sinks so low as to recommend skipping toilet paper if you plan on taking a shower after going to the bathroom. Why use toilet paper when you can simply wash yourself in the shower? Yes, that is a bit crude, but hey, it will save you some toilet paper! If you actually do practice this technique, I would not recommend telling your friends and family. They might look at you funny.

Some of the techniques in this book will save you several pennies and some of the techniques will save you several dollars. You will find that a few of these tips are just plain crazy, but nonetheless, they will still save you money! The only question is if you are brave enough to lose some of your pride by practicing some of these techniques!

If you are not a fan of thick books, then this book is just your style. It is only 109 pages, so it makes for a quick and easy read. You can read it all at once or you may read it one chapter at a time while in the bathroom as you rest on your throne.

This book is guaranteed to get a couple chuckles out of you. It will also give you some great conversation topics while at your next party or social gathering with friends!
