Book Review: Chic Lit by Sophie Kinsella, the Undomestic Goddess

Book Review: Chic Lit by Sophie Kinsella, Undomestic Goddess
As true of all of Sophie Kinsella books, the heroine gets herself into trouble, endures outrageous plots to keep things secret, has a love interest who is unaware of her entanglements and ends up smelling like a rose. The Undomestic Goddess is just such a story.
In this Chic Lit book, Sophie Kinsella's heroine is a type-A personality lawyer who is mistaken as a new housekeeper for a fabulously wealthy family. Because of circumstances I won't tell you about, she goes along with the mistaken identity. There is just one catch, she doesn't know how to cook or clean house.
You can imagine the remainder of the story with her hilarious attempts to cover her lack of culinary and domestic skills. At the same time, she keeps her law firm in the dark about her position as a domestic. This is all happening just as the firm is about to announce her acceptance as a partner.
She is also trying to delay news of a mistake she made at the firm and balance a love interest with another staff member for the same family. However, the love interest is fast becoming aware she is not a cook and oh yes, she finds out a startling secret about her law firm. Whew, did I leave anything out?
I wrote this book review without giving away the storyline so you can still read this hilarious book. There are many laugh out-loud scenes to keep you tickled. And I never lost track or got confused with the plot which points to Sophie Kinsella's writing excellent skills. In The Undomestic Goddess, the heroine is outspoken and very clever with the same warm, quirky humor Sophie Kinsella is known for.
Book Review: Chic Lit by Sophie Kinsella, Undomestic Goddess and The Shopaholic Series
I laughed at the author's Shopaholic series of books as well, but after a while, I tired of the main character because she repeats the same mistakes over and over. The Shopaholic series is still a fun read but I feel Sophie Kinsella created more depth of character in her heroine in The Undomestic Goddess.
Book Review: Final Analysis of The Undomestic Goddess
The Undomestic Goddess is light-hearted and funny with a sweet love story which makes it the perfect formula for Chic Lit. This combination makes it great for a relaxing summer read by the beach and away from the school books. I highly recommend any of Sophia Kinsella's hilarious books and this is probably why she is a favorite Chic Lit author on the New York Times #1 Bestseller list.

Very nice review!
This sounds like a great book, and a wonderful title. Thanks for the review.
Nice way to get me to add one more to my "To Read" book list. Good to see a fellow Okie.
I don't care about chick-lit really. But I will always read every article I can to analyze style. This was well written. Remember the phrase "no spoilers." That is a way of saying that you are not going to give away the plot.
I will have to read the Undomestic Goddess! Great review, Deborah!
Sounds like something I would enjoy :)
Yep, this story does have the makings of a chick-flick.
