In the book, First Riding Lessons by Sandy Ransford, you will find full color photographs of kids having riding lessons and taking care of their horses and ponies. Nearly every aspect of horseback riding and care is covered. The book covers subjects such as where to take lessons; clothes to wear when you are riding; some of the different types and breeds of ponies; a pony's tack such as the different saddles and bridles; learning to saddle and bridle your pony; mounting and dismounting; how to sit in the saddle; turning right and left; learning to trot; cantering; and even a beginner's guide to jumping your pony.
The photographs are clear and show each subject lesson that I listed in the previous paragraph to give you a better understanding of exactly how to do the different aspects of riding, sitting, holding the reins and more. There is also a small glossary at the end of the book with commonly used horse and pony terms to help you to understand some basic "horse language." While this book does primarily focus on the English style of horseback riding, there is a small chapter on Western riding.
First Riding Lessons is written primarily for children but I believe that it would be useful for adults as well because of the basic and easy to understand explanations and photographs.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, First Riding Lessons by Sandy Ransford, and I highly recommend it for the horse lover who wants to know more about horses and who is hoping to someday have either their own horse and/or horseback riding lessons. I believe it would also be a good resource for the parents of a horse-loving child who wants to have horseback riding lessons.

Post a CommentSounds like a good book for those who want to ride a horse.
I'm a horse lover and this one is of great interest. I may even have read it before but I'm not absolutely sure. I'll be checking my bookshelves now :)
