Nathan Fillion is the actor who portrays the character, Richard Castle, on the ABC show, Castle. His character has just killed off his main character, Derrick Storm, and was in the process of trying to figure out who to write about next when he became involved in a police investigation that involved one of his books. So he became involved in the police investigations and made the decision to base his next book on Detective Kate Bennett, who was not at all pleased, but was "forced" to go through by her boss and the Mayor, of whom Richard Castle knew.
In the book, Heat Wave, Jameson Rook, who is the writer that is involved in the police investigation and is also involved in using this plot for one of his books. It is similar to the TV series, but with different names and so forth. This show is so intriguing the way that they include the actual book from the character in the series and actually publish it in real life. What is also interesting is the way that they include many bestselling authors in the show and many of the authors are well known in their genre. Two of the well known authors are James Patterson and Stephen J. Cannell. They appear to be friends of Richard Castle in the show and they always show up when he is playing poker and needs some help in figuring out the case.
In Heat Wave, a wealthy man has been murdered so both Detective Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook are in the case. They make the surprising discovery that the man was actually penniless. Another murder follows and they make the discovery of that murder that leads them back to the first. To top it off, there is a theft at one of the crime scenes. Then there is a scare when Nikki Heat is targeted for murder. What makes this book interesting that it follows like the series itself and the characters, even though they are formed after the characters in the series, there is a difference. There is an affair between the main characters in the book, but in the series itself, there is no such affair going on. Sure, there are sparks flying between the two, but so far that is it, and that is what makes this series and this book so intriguing. Even if you have not yet seen the series, you will enjoy this book. It is an enjoyable and pleasurable read that is also amusing to read.

Well, admittedly, I like the show - and have been wondering how well the book would be written. It's definitely a stroke of marketing genius.
