Book Review: "Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan

The Professor
For those of you that are always looking for the next Harry Potter type series Percy Jackson and "The Lightning Thief" could be the answer. Percy Jackson's pursuit of heroism reminds readers of Harry Potter.

If you are fascinated in legends and myths than this book will really grab you. As it throws at you the stories of Greek mythology that children learn every day. The main plotline in the book is about demigods or "half-bloods". These are the children of Greek gods and goddesses, who had come down to have relationships with mortals. These children grow up with disjointed lives as they are attacked by monsters. But, "half-bloods" can find a home at Camp Half-Blood with Chiron, a centaur, and Mr. D.

Percy turns out to be a son of Poseidon, lands at this camp, but must eventually leave it and risk the monsters, to fulfill a Quest. He is personally charged with a quest that, should he fail, will result in the ruin of the world.

Author Rick Riordan has done a terrific job with this book. I would suggest it for any ages. Especially, if you are a fan of books that contain mythological creatures than the book will certainly strike your heart like a lightning bolt thrown by Zeus.
