Book Review: Outlaw Bride by Kelly Boyce

EBook Historical Romance

Sharon Schmidt Tyler
Outlaw Bride by Kelly Boyce is a satisfying historical romance set in the American west. It offers romance readers everything they might want; reluctant love, outlaws, interfering townspeople, secrets and a steamy scene or two. Katherine Slade is desperate. She is on the run from her brutal husband, who just happens to be a wanted man. She has been on the run for a while, and in her efforts to escape, innocent people have been killed. Grant Langston died trying to help her, and now she is trying to fulfill the promise she made to him as he was dying in her arms. She just needs to stay ahead of her outlaw husband, and find Grant's family. She never intended to play the role of mail-order bride, but somehow that is what happens. Sheriff Connor Langston needs a housekeeper and caretaker for little Jenny. Neither Connor or Kate are looking to fall in love, but as they try to decipher each other and their secrets that is exactly what happens. However, will Connor still care about Kate when he learns the whole truth?

I sat and read Outlaw Bride quickly. I found the characters engaging and the plot fun and interesting. I really liked the book. It has been a long time since I indulged my love of historical romances, reading more paranormal and urban fantasy as of late. It did not take long for Outlaw Bride to remind me of why I loved the western romance. If you are a fan of the genre there really is nothing incredibly new, but the writing style and character interactions made this an enjoyable read. Small town sheriff, interfering town folk with good intentions, people with few options, and of course true love. There are the dual identity and child needing love aspects added to the mix just to make thing a little more complex. This is the perfect relaxing read. It would be great for reading on vacation, or on a lazy day. It was perfect rainy day reading for me.
