Sal and Sally "All God's Critters Toddler Series #2 by Jay Miller (A Book Review)

Recently I was fortunate enough to get a childrens book called Sal and Sally - All God's Critters #2 in the mail from the author Jay Miller. He sent it to me and signed and inscribed it to my two oldest grandsons. I thought that the boys would find that really neat and I was right, they were excited to see their names written in the book and from their new "friend" Jay Miller! Just getting the book in the mail was exciting enough for all of us but then we read the book and looked at the illustrations by Jessica Ball and were REALLY pleased!

Sal and Sally is a charming book about two small fish (sea bass) who live in the ocean. One day Sally is blowing some pretty color bubbles and she calls Sal over to share what she's done. Sal likes the bubbles and asks Sally to show him how to blow pretty color bubbles too. Soon the two sea bass are blowing pretty color bubbles and having a fun time. Along comes Nelly the Octopus who thinks it looks like fun too and asks if she can join Sal and Sally and would they please show her how to blow those pretty color bubbles too.

Soon all three are having a great time blowing pretty color bubbles when Nasty Nick comes by to ruin their fun. Nasty Nick the Texas Long Nose Shark wants to eat them. The story continues telling how the three escape and how Nasty Nick gets tired of trying to catch them and decides to leave. But before he leaves, Sal and Sally invite him to stay and learn how to have fun blowing pretty color bubbles too. Nasty Nick decides to stay and blow pretty color bubbles and even earns himself a new name, Nifty Nick. Soon everyone is blowing pretty color bubbles and other sea creatures are coming to play and blow pretty color bubbles too. Their happiness and fun is spreading to one and all.

Sal and Sally is a fun and happy book to read. My grandsons enjoyed the story as well as the illustrations which are colorful and cheerul. And I personally like how the book promotes friendship and working together without being preachy or stuffy about it.

At the end of the book are words to some songs that can be sung - The Octopus Song; Nifty Nick's Bubble Blowing Song and The Turtle Song.
There are also pictures at the end of the book that tell of other books in this "All God's Critters" Toddler series by Jay Miller that will be coming out in the future. They sound cute and fun and I look forward to those.

The author, Jay Miller, has another book out that is the first title in this "All God's Critters" Toddler series called Bingo the Banjo Picking Bear. I haven't had the opportunity to read that one yet but it sounds cute too from the description at Amazon.com. I may have to get a copy of that one for my grandsons too!
